Licensing requirements, application procedures, fees and regulations are established by the applicable government agency and are subject to change. Course Overview
To become a California DOJ Certified CCW Instructor, applicants must pass a live-fire shooting qualification course on a firing range. Within six months before submitting their application, both initial and renewal applicants must successfully complete this qualification administered by another qualified instructor.
The qualification is administered on our range by a qualified instructor using the standard B-27 target course of fire defined by the California DOJ. This is a pass/fail evaluation of safe weapon handling and shooting proficiency under timed conditions.

Important: You Cannot Qualify Yourself
You cannot administer your own qualification. The live-fire qualification must be administered by another qualified instructor who will witness and sign off on your performance. The instructor who witnessed your qualifications will need to sign your BOF 1034 application — bring it with you to the range.
Qualification Requirements
During the qualification course, the applicant must:
- ADisplay safe weapon practices at all times.
- BUse a serviceable holster and magazine pouch with at least one reload.
- CComplete the shooting exercises using a standard B-27 target.
The specific course of fire (distances, times, and round counts) is defined by the California DOJ and may change. Review the official DOJ CCW Instructor Requirements for the current course of fire.
What to Bring
- A serviceable pistol (rentals available on site)
- A serviceable holster and magazine pouch with at least one reload
- At least 30 rounds of factory ammunition
- Eye and ear protection
- Comfortable, range-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes
- Your BOF 1034 – CCW Program DOJ Certified Instructor Application (to be signed by the witnessing instructor)
Fee is all inclusive. No hidden fees, additional costs, or pricing mark ups. Firearm and ammunition rentals are available on site.
Timing & Application
- The qualification must be completed within six months before submitting your DOJ application.
- Applies to both initial and renewal applicants.
- The witnessing instructor must sign your BOF 1034 application form.

Range Location & Map
Lopez Canyon Shooting Range, Sylmar, CA
Directions and address will be provided upon booking a course. It is approximately 10 minutes' drive from our classrooms.
Important Notes:
- • When you are driving on the dirt keep speeds under 10mph.
- • For classes and qualifications, we will be on the lower ranges. As soon as you cross the wooden bridge, we are immediately to the right on the first driveway.
- • You may bring your equipment to the bay, do not uncase until instructed to do so. Firearms may not be hand carried from the car.
- • Do not load magazines until instructed to do so.
Facilities Available:
- • Private range, there is no access for public shooters.
- • Women's and Men's restrooms available.
- • Shade and seated areas.
- • Wheelchair ramp ADA accessible.
- • There are no ammunition vendors on site. All rental or range equipment must be requested ahead of time. Eye protection and hearing protection first come, first served.
