Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about equipment, documentation, and what to expect when you arrive

Please use your FULL name when registering for the courses. We use our scheduling software to download and create the certificates after all courses. If you have a middle initial enter it as well to avoid duplicate entries. This is IMPORTANT to have your certificate complete. Do NOT use short versions of your name. Thank you.

Equipment

What should I bring to a firearms or range course?
For most range courses you will need: a valid government-issued photo ID, the firearm(s) you intend to qualify with (if required by the course), the correct amount of ammunition, eye and ear protection, comfortable outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes, and note-taking materials. Each course page lists its specific "What to Bring" section — always check your course page before arriving.
Do I need to bring my own firearm?
It depends on the course. CCW initial and renewal courses require you to bring a firearm registered in your name. Some introductory and simulator courses provide training firearms or use simulator-compatible pistols. If a course does not require a live firearm, the course page will say so explicitly. When in doubt, call us at 310-650-6896 before booking.
How much ammunition do I need?
For CCW initial and renewal range days the standard count is 80 rounds for your first firearm, 30 rounds for a second, and 30 rounds for a third. Other courses have their own round counts listed on the course page. Bring factory-loaded ammunition only — reloads are not permitted for qualification courses.
Do you sell or rent firearms, ammunition, or safety gear?
We do not sell firearms. Ammunition and eye/ear protection may be available for purchase on site, but availability is not guaranteed — we strongly recommend bringing everything your course page lists. Call ahead if you are unsure whether an item will be available.
What clothing and attire should I wear?
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate outdoor clothing and closed-toe shoes for any range day. Avoid open-toe shoes, sandals, and low-cut tops, as hot brass can cause burns. For classroom-only days, casual attire is fine. Dress for the weather — the Lopez Canyon range is an outdoor facility.
Can I bring my own holster or carry gear to the simulator course?
Yes. For the Use of Force / Defensive Readiness simulator course, you are encouraged to bring your own belt-mounted holster and carry method so you can evaluate your everyday-carry setup. No live firearms are allowed in the simulator area — simulator-compatible training pistols are provided.

Documentation

What ID do I need to bring?
A valid government-issued photo ID is required for every course. For California CCW courses, your ID must match the name on your application and the firearm registration. Non-residents should bring a valid driver's license or ID from their home state.
Do I need to register with my full legal name?
Yes. Register using your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID, including any middle initial. We use your registration name to generate your completion certificate. Using a nickname or shortened name can cause duplicate records and delay your certificate. Do not use short versions of your name.
Do I need to bring proof of CCW application approval?
For CCW initial and renewal courses, you should have already submitted your application to your issuing agency and received training authorization before booking your class. We do not recommend taking training before applying. Bring any agency correspondence or training authorization you have received.
Is Live Scan fingerprinting available on site?
Yes. We offer Live Scan fingerprinting services at our Pacoima classroom. For CCW renewals, California now requires new fingerprints for applications submitted on or after September 1, 2026 — follow your issuing agency's instructions on when and where to complete your Live Scan.
Will I receive a certificate of completion?
Yes. After successfully completing your course, you will receive a completion certificate generated from the name you registered with. This is why accurate registration is important. For instructor and CCW courses, your certificate is the documentation you submit to your agency or the DOJ.
Do I need to be a California resident to train with you?
No. We welcome out-of-state students for most courses. Our California Non-Resident CCW virtual course is specifically designed for qualifying non-California residents. For CCW permit issuance, eligibility and jurisdiction are determined by California law and your issuing agency.

What to Expect on Arrival

Where is the classroom located?
Our classroom is at 10285 Glenoaks Blvd #6, Pacoima, CA 91331. This is where most classroom instruction and Live Scan services take place.
Where is the shooting range?
Range training takes place at the Lopez Canyon Shooting Range in Sylmar, CA. The range is a separate outdoor facility from the classroom — your course page will tell you whether your class meets at the classroom, the range, or both.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive 10–15 minutes before your scheduled start time to check in, complete any paperwork, and get settled. Late arrivals may not be admitted once instruction has begun, especially for range qualification courses.
Is there parking at the classroom and the range?
Yes, parking is available at both the Pacoima classroom and the Lopez Canyon range. Please follow on-site signage and staff instructions when parking.
Are restrooms and water available?
Restrooms are available at the classroom. At the Lopez Canyon range, facilities are limited — we recommend bringing water and planning accordingly, especially on hot days.
What if I'm running late or need to reschedule?
Call us as soon as possible at 310-650-6896. Full refunds are available for cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance; cancellations within 24 hours may receive a partial refund on a case-by-case basis. See our Refund Policy for details.
Can I bring a friend or family member to watch?
The classroom and range are for registered students only. Spectators and unregistered guests are not permitted on the range for safety and liability reasons. Family members may wait off-site.
Can I bring food or drinks?
You may bring snacks and water. Please do not bring food into the classroom during instruction, and no food or open drinks are permitted on the firing line. Hydration is important on range days — bring plenty of water.
