Important Update!
The "Just Cause" requirement was constitutionally struck down! All Los Angeles County residents may now apply for a CCW. You do not need to prove why you need it anymore. All handgun owners should apply today!
Please use your FULL name when registering for the courses. We use our scheduling software to download and create the certificates after all courses. If you have a middle initial enter it as well to avoid duplicate entries. This is IMPORTANT to have your certificate complete. Do NOT use short versions of your name. Thank you.
To get a CCW in LA County, you must apply with the correct law enforcement agency first.
Start by checking if your city has its own police department. If it does (like LA City, Santa Monica, Burbank, or Long Beach), apply directly with that department. If your city does not have its own police department, you can apply with the Sheriff's Department instead.
If you're not sure which agency covers your area, use this link and enter your home address to find out.
Once your application is submitted, and you're approved for training, you can schedule your class. Use the links below to book a class.
For Initial students, training is a 2-day class. Both days are required for certification. After you have booked day one, please return to book day 2. The course fee covers both dates.

Commonly Asked Questions
What agencies accept your training course?
We are approved for all agencies and cities within Los Angeles County, California, such as LAPD, Glendale, Burbank, Lancaster, Santa Clarita, Santa Monica, El Segundo etc. Even if we are not directly listed on your agencies training roster, we are approved on the County List and all instructors are DOJ CCW certified instructors.
Can I attend the training BEFORE submitting my application?
We do not recommend this. Contact your issuing agency before booking a class. You should submit an initial CCW application and pay the application fee to your agency prior to booking the course. Every agency has a different policy regarding when they want you to seek training.
How do I apply?
Applicants must apply to the law enforcement agency that services their home of record. Contact your local law enforcement agency and submit an initial CCW application with them. The firearms listed on your permit must be owned by the individual applying.
Do I need a just cause?
No, you do not. All that is required is for you to be a lawful non-prohibited person.
Can I apply before owning a firearm?
No, you must own a firearm already in order to apply.
Can I use a firearm that was inherited?
Yes, any handgun, pistol, or revolver registered in your name can be used. If you inherited it, the important thing is the firearm has to have an AFS record. You will have to have reported ownership through a gun store or through https://cfars.doj.ca.gov. prior to being approved for the CCW.
Can I use my spouse's firearm?
No... unfortunately for the purpose of CCW the law was changed to require a firearm be registered in your name for license issuance.
I have a DUI in my criminal history, can this prohibit me from CCW?
Potentially. Any criminal history can be used to determine good or bad character for the purpose of CCW. Every agency makes different determinations and takes into account recency, severity, and frequency of the cases prior to making a determination. Our advice is do not lie, misrepresent, or omit any criminal history — and still apply, as long as you are not a prohibited person such as a convicted felon etc.
What can I do if the firearm is legally mine, but does not exist on the AFS system under my name?
You'll need to file a report with the California Department of Justice through their online system. Go to the CFARS (California Firearms Application Reporting System) and choose "Firearm Ownership Report".Click here to access CFARS
Is SB2 still enforceable?

"I had a great experience at Southwest Training Center and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for CCW training. I recently took a CCW course. It was a full 2-day, 16-hour program, but the team did an excellent job making it both comfortable and enjoyable from start to finish. The training facility itself is clean, well-organized, and comfortable, which made a big difference during a longer course like this. Their attention to detail really stood out. Everything was explained clearly, and they made sure everyone fully understood the material - not just to pass, but to be responsible and confident moving forward. Big thanks to Bo, Mike, and Luis - all three are extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and professional. They bring real-world experience and create an environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and learning. Also, a nice bonus... they provided lunch on day two, which was a great touch and shows how much they care about their students. Overall, top-notch training and a great experience. I’d absolutely recommend Southwest Training Center to anyone serious about getting their CCW done right, or any other firearms or medical related training."
"Great experience! This is the second time within the past 2 years I attended training here with the same amazing experience. I greatly appreciate all the genuine efforts our instructor Ony put in our training. Ony answered hundreds of our questions and instructions he provided us with were priceless and precisely on point. I can state with confidence that me and all my peers in training had awesome time. STC also nicely updated classrooms with big screens and very comfortable ergonomic chairs. This training center is my all training go to place!"
"I recently completed a training course at Southwest Training Center and had a wonderful experience. All of the instructors were knowledgeable, informative, engaging, and genuinely kind. Even though the class days were long, the time went by quickly because the instructors kept the class interactive and interesting throughout the training. The course covered important safety procedures, laws, and real-life scenarios that really encouraged critical thinking and discussion about possible outcomes. I appreciated how the instructors created a comfortable learning environment where everyone felt involved and encouraged to participate. The class was organized very well, and the snack options were a thoughtful touch. I also liked that the range was nearby and provided a more private setting. At the range, the instructors really walked everyone through each step clearly, which made the experience feel comfortable, easy to follow, and very well organized. Overall, I had an excellent experience with Southwest Training Center and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for professional, informative, and engaging training."
