LAPD CCW Training in Los Angeles
California CCW initial and renewal training for Los Angeles Police Department applicants
Southwest Training Center provides California CCW initial and renewal firearms training for qualifying LAPD applicants at our Pacoima training center in the San Fernando Valley. Our instructors are DOJ CCW certified and our facility is an approved training vendor for Los Angeles County agencies.
LAPD controls the application, eligibility and licensing process. The Los Angeles Police Department determines who qualifies, sets application requirements, and issues the Concealed Carry Weapon License.
Southwest Training Center provides the required firearms training. Once LAPD authorizes you to proceed, we deliver the initial and renewal training and range qualification needed for your permit.
Applicants should always follow current LAPD instructions. Application procedures and requirements may change. Verify current LAPD CCW requirements before booking training.
LAPD CCW Applicant Portal
Follow these steps to navigate the LAPD CCW process from application to training.
New LAPD CCW Applicant
New applicants should begin with LAPD and should not take their firearms training until LAPD determines they qualify and instructs them to proceed. Follow LAPD's current application instructions before scheduling any training.
LAPD Initial CCW Training
After LAPD authorizes the applicant to proceed with training, STC provides the required initial firearms training and qualification. Initial CCW training is a 2-day class; both days are required for certification. After booking Day 1, please return to book Day 2.
LAPD CCW Renewal
LAPD renewal applicants use the existing STC CCW renewal course. Visit our renewal page for details and to schedule.
LAPD Renewal Timing
LAPD instructs renewal applicants to begin the renewal process 90 days before their CCW expiration date.
LAPD states that a CCW cannot be renewed 90 days after expiration. After that point, the applicant must restart the process as a new initial applicant.
LAPD also states that renewal firearm training should be completed before the CCW expires and cannot be dated more than six months before the expiration date.
An expired CCW does not authorize continued concealed carry while a renewal is pending.
Follow the current LAPD CCW Unit instructions and Permitium renewal process for your specific renewal.
