LASD CCW Training in Los Angeles County
California CCW initial and renewal training for Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department applicants
Southwest Training Center provides California CCW initial and renewal firearms training for qualifying Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department applicants at our Pacoima training center in the San Fernando Valley. Our instructors are DOJ CCW certified and our facility is an approved training vendor for Los Angeles County agencies.
LASD controls the application, eligibility and licensing process. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department determines who qualifies, sets application requirements, and issues the Concealed Carry Weapon License.
Southwest Training Center provides the required firearms training and qualification. Once LASD authorizes you to proceed, we deliver the initial and renewal training and range qualification needed for your permit.
Applicants must follow current LASD instructions regarding when training may be completed. Application procedures and training timing requirements may change. Verify current LASD CCW requirements before booking training.
LASD CCW Applicant Portal
Follow these steps to navigate the LASD CCW process from application to training.
New LASD CCW Applicant
New applicants should begin with LASD and follow current LASD instructions before completing any firearms training. Do not schedule or complete training until LASD determines you qualify and instructs you to proceed.
IMPORTANT — LASD APPLICANTS
Effective October 1, 2026, LASD states that a Live Scan or firearm training completed before the CCW application is submitted will not be accepted. No exceptions.
LASD also instructs applicants not to complete firearms training until the LASD CCW Unit tells them to proceed. Once authorized by LASD, firearms training must be completed within 60 days.
Always follow the current instructions from the LASD CCW Unit before scheduling or completing your required CCW training.
LASD Initial CCW Training
After the applicant reaches the appropriate training stage under LASD instructions, Southwest Training Center provides the required initial CCW firearms training and qualification. Initial CCW training is a 2-day class; both days are required for certification. After booking Day 1, please return to book Day 2.
LASD CCW Renewal
LASD renewal applicants can complete the existing STC CCW renewal course when appropriate under current LASD renewal instructions. Visit our renewal page for details and to schedule.
LASD Renewal Timing
LASD identifies the 90-day period before your CCW expires as the renewal window. We recommend beginning your renewal as soon as you enter that window so you have sufficient time to complete the required renewal training, fingerprints and agency requirements.
California Penal Code § 26225(e) provides that if a renewal application is not submitted within 90 days after expiration, the licensing authority must request termination of the applicable DOJ subsequent-notification status.
Do not interpret the 90-day period after expiration as an extension of your CCW. An expired license does not authorize continued concealed carry.
Follow the current LASD CCW instructions for your specific renewal before proceeding.
Cities Served by LASD
Many incorporated cities and unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County receive law-enforcement services from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants in these communities should generally use the LASD CCW process rather than looking for a separate city CCW application.
Jurisdiction and contract arrangements can change. Applicants should confirm their current issuing agency with LASD or their local city before applying.
